During March 2013 I delivered a lecture and training workshop in zoo design in collaboration with long-time colleague Nevin Lash of Ursa International http://www.ursainternational.org/ at the XXXVII Congresso da Sociedade de Zoológicos do Brasil held at the Beto Carrero theme park and zoo in Penha, Santa Catarina, Brazil. This was the third SZB Congresso at which I have spoken over the years.

This year's talk was titled Design, Tendências e Técnicas em Zoológico. Remembering my US Peace Corps Brazil language training from 40 years ago, I was able to give some of the lecture and most of the workshop in Portuguese and translated the PowerPoint into that language with assistance from old friend and enrichment specialist Sra Paloma Bosso. Noted zoo animal nutritionist and world traveller Ellen Dierenfeld was also a featured speaker.

Two years ago I provided a two-day training in zoo design for the Saó Paulo Zoo Society congresso at Saó Paulo Zoo and developed a mini-master plan for the zoo.
